WELCOME!!! Today our first reading is John 1-3. Here are some of my thoughts and questions. You can respond to them or write your own.
1. Before Jesus returns will there be another "John the Baptist" to prepare the way of the Lord? Will it be one man? Will it be a generation?
2. John 1:39 says that there were two men that went with Jesus and hung out with him that day. It says it was about 10:00 in the morning. Why do you think the exact time was mentioned in the bible?
3. John 2 tells the story of Jesus "Cleansing the Temple" - if Jesus is a man of peace and love, why do you think he did that?
4. John 3 has two different stories of Jesus's words and actions blowing the minds of "church people" of that day. He did things different. How many things do you think we still get backwards and upside down? How many times do we still try to put Jesus and his ways in OUR boxes?
Jesus is a man of peace and love. But just like God he can get angry. God could have cleaned the temple out and everyone would have shuttered in fear and tore their clothes and said yes yes God we believe Jesus is your son. But he let his son do his work and had him throw out the people and get rid of the junk in the temple. To show that the temple needs to be a place of peace and love maybe some anger needs to take place to get that point across
